The
only one whom I admire most in prayer is my grandmother; mom of my father. In
her twilight age, she spent most of her time a lot in prayer. She woke up at
04.00 am to pray and she’ll do her activity to 11.30 then prepare her prayer at
12.00. She will do prayer again at 15.00 pm, 19.00 pm and even she lies on the
bed at night, she prays. Once upon a visit, I asked her for whom she prays a
lot? She answered me: “I pray for my husband who was died, my sons and
daughters, my grandsons and granddaughters and especially for the souls in
purgatory.” Her prayer was not a poetic prayer, not a letter prayer, and it’s
not a theological prayer. Her prayer is just deeply comes from her heart even
it is repeated every day. For me personally, my grandmother is a miracle for me
and for her family and also for many who suffer in purgatory. Even now she is
gone I do believe she still prays for us.
Prayer is a relation.
Relation which is built upon the faith to God and it’s connected to others.
This relation is built because humans are weak, limited and fragile before God.
Therefore, prayer is important for every people. Each of us has also an idol to
our spiritual life. Those are saints or may be the one who close to us.
Whoever our models of
prayer or whatever our models of prayer, the only thing we need to realize is our
prayer is on the same tone with our human breathe. Human die without breathe.
Our faith dies without prayer. In our prayer we let God live in us and we
listen to His voice, we realize our weaknesses, and we lay our self to the
providential guidance. So, don’t ever stop praying just because we ‘feel’ our
prayer is useless and we feel He doesn’t help us. He will give us the best we
need, not the best we want. God bless you.
