I have a moslem grandmother. She just passed away/died two weeks ago. She was about 80 years old, when she’s gone. For her, I am the only grand child who rare come back to see her. And because of that, she used to ask me:
“Why do you rarely back home, to see your mother, your father and your younger brother? Don’t you miss them? And what do you want to be? A doctor? An engineer? Or something else?”
And she continued: “Do you have a lot of friends or not?”
I became confuse to answer her question. I didn’t want to tell her that I am going to be a Priest. Because even I told her that I wanna be a Priest, she may didn’t know what is Priest. So I just told her that I am studying in Yogyakarta and I have a lot of friends. It was going for years, until her dead, nobody tell her that I want to be a Priest. I hope in heaven she knows know what I wanna be. And I have a lot of friends. Not just a friends; I have a lot of brothers and sisters who are going walk with me in the Lord’s way.
In following Jesus’ way; I or we, not only have biological parents, but we have lot of reliance parents, lot of brothers in faith. They care to us and especially for the needs of our life.
In the Gospel Jesus saying:
“Here are my brothers and sisters. They are listening and doing the God’s will.”
Jesus doesn’t look like make a different for everybody before God. Even it’s young or old, big or small. Even it’s the poorest or the richest, even it’s biological or unbiological parents. They are same in the Lord’s eyes. Two things that make different are the deep inside of our faith and how we do the God’s will.
In every single day of my life here, we meet each other, all of you. And even we meet each other all the day: since we wake up, praying, celebrating the mass together, breakfast, college and so on, we never say to our brother: “I am boring to meet you, please go..!” No. We never say that to our brothers. That is the community, our community. Our community is not just a physical community, but a brotherhood built in faith.
We have the same motivation to be. We walk together, learning together, and we keep our brothers vocation each other.
United States money saying: “In God we Trust”
Barcelona saying: “Mes que un club” that means “ We are not just a club, we are brother” Liverpooldian saying: “You’ll never walk alone”
Addidas saying: “Impossible is nothing”
So as a community we may say:
“BECAUSE IN GOD WE TRUST, WE ARE HERE IN A WONDERFUL BROTHERHOOD, THAT EACH OTHER NEVER WALK ALONE, AND FOR US AS A COMMUNITY, IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING”.
